Cambridge (Cambridge Tribune) August 05, 2026 – The finalists for the 2026 Cambridge Independent Business Awards have been revealed, with organisers saying the judging panel faced a difficult task after a record number of entries. As reported by the Cambridge Independent, the shortlist spans start-ups, retailers, social enterprises, innovators, employers, scale-ups and major established companies across the region.
Editor Paul Brackley, who chaired the judging panel, said: “Congratulations to all those who have made it on to the shortlist.” He added that it had been “inspiring to see the achievements and talents of our entrants”, describing the shortlist as “diverse and exciting”.
The winners will be announced on Thursday, 24 September, during a black-tie dinner in the Great Hall at King’s College, Cambridge. The event will also include a networking reception, a three-course meal and a silent auction.
Which businesses made the shortlist?
The shortlist is spread across 14 categories, with each section designed to recognise a different part of Cambridge’s business community. In Start-up of the Year, sponsored by Buckles Law, the finalists are WPark, Data Incite, Elle-Events Management, QL Security, Football Finery and CompliMind.
Retailer of the Year, sponsored by Cambridge BID, includes Plumbs’ Dairy, Townhouse Nail Care, Barrington Store, Campkins Cameras, Tea Apothecary and Art of Flooring. Social Enterprise of the Year features Cambridge Junction, Shutter Hub, Allia, Cambridge Science Centre, Mathsfit and Cambridge Female Founders Network.
Innovation of the Year, supported by Mantle Space, includes HutanBio, Project-A, CardiaTec, LVOne by Upfront Diagnostics, Marshall Aerospace and Alchemie Technology. The Green Award shortlist, sponsored by Conscious Communications, comprises The Cambridge Building Society, Hilton Cambridge City Centre, o2h Discovery, Alchemie Technology, Cambridge Investment Partnership and Pragmatic Semiconductor.

Hospitality Business of the Year, sponsored by Kale & Damson, includes University Arms, Hyatt Centric Cambridge, Hilton Cambridge City Centre, Everyman Cinema, Grand Arcade, Oak Bistro and Graduate by Hilton Cambridge. Employer of the Year features Hilton Cambridge City Centre, Clayton Hotel, RxCelerate, Cambridge Vacuum Engineering, Gearset and Echion Technologies.
The Award for Collaboration, sponsored by AstraZeneca, lists Morgans Butchery & Countryside, Grand Arcade’s Grand Discoveries, Owlstone Medical & Wellbeck Health Partners, Marshall Aerospace & Horizon Aircraft, COEL & Carter Jonas and Cambridge Investment Partnership. The Mayor’s Scale-up of the Year shortlist, supported by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, includes Paragraf, Gearset, Midsummer Energy and Jumptech.
Business Person of the Year includes Alex Tunbridge, Avril Farr, James Tweed, Eleanor Roberts-Nissen, Prashant Shah and Tabitha Goldstaub. Barr Ellison is once again the headline sponsor, and the Cambridge law firm said it was proud to back the awards and celebrate the businesses and individuals contributing to the region. Jonathan Greenhalgh, head of commercial property at Barr Ellison and a member of the judging panel, said the standard was “exceptionally high” and that the panel looked forward to recognising the nominees at the awards night.
The Crown Estate will sponsor Business of the Year – Small. The report said the organisation has also submitted a planning application for a £2 billion investment in Cambridge Business Park, with proposals including office and research and development space, homes, affordable housing, co-living units, retail and leisure space, and public green space.
Kristy Lansdown, managing director of development at The Crown Estate, said the masterplan sets out a “bold, long-term plan” to support Cambridge’s growth while delivering environmental and landscape proposals and “lasting and inclusive benefits”.
