Cambridge City Foodbank launches Summer Appeal:
“Help ensure no child goes without food during the school holidays”
Amid an impending rise in food and energy prices, Cambridge City Foodbank has launched its Summer Appeal, inviting people and businesses to support families struggling to afford the essentials this summer through food donations and financial contributions.
Summer is often one of the charity’s busiest periods. Last summer, the Foodbank provided more than 41,000 meals to households with children and it is predicting to experience high levels of need again this year.
Liam Loftus, Development Director at Cambridge City Foodbank, said:
“The summer holidays should be one of the happiest times of the year for children and parents alike. I was personally very fortunate to have so many happy summer holidays, and it’s heartbreaking to say that it’s not the case for everyone. For low-income families, the summer often brings increased energy and food costs, lost hours of work and higher childcare bills.
“This summer, parents across Cambridge will go without food so that their children can eat. This is a choice no one should ever have to make, but by supporting our appeal, the people of Cambridge can help ensure every family in the city can access the essentials they need and experience the fulfilment they should this summer.”
The Foodbank is encouraging supporters to donate to support the appeal. Supporting financially via the Foodbank’s website is the most impactful way to relieve pressure on families and feed local children. Food can also be donated via designated donation bins located in most local supermarkets.

Steve Clay, CEO of Cambridge City Foodbank, said:
“Cambridge City Foodbank is here to help local people facing hunger and hardship, but we cannot do it without the kindness and generosity of people, like you. Any donation, no matter the size, will help combat poverty in Cambridge. With your support, we can help households struggling to afford the essentials and also help them access thousands of pounds in support they may be entitled to but are not receiving. By supporting our Summer Appeal, you will be making a direct difference to people in Cambridge facing crisis and help ensure no child goes without food during the school holidays.”
This year, the Foodbank is expected to provide more than 250,000 meals to people in need across Cambridge in 2026. Food is accessed through its Foodbank Welcome Centres, where three days worth of emergency food is provided for people facing crisis, or at its Fairbite Food Clubs, which is a longer-term service that enables members to access essential items, fresh food and household products for a small membership fee.
